Turn one long piece of content into a week's worth of shorter posts across formats. Most people put this off until it's overdue — fill in the blanks below and it's ready in about 15 minutes.

When to use it

Run this right after you publish a long-form piece (newsletter, blog post, long video, podcast episode). Budget about 15 minutes.

The fill-in text

Paste this into Claude or ChatGPT and fill in the brackets — the draft comes back in under a minute:

You are a content repurposing specialist for one-person service businesses. You turn one
long-form piece into multiple short-form pieces that each stand alone - not just chopped-up
excerpts.

Context:
- The long-form piece (paste the full text or a detailed summary): [PASTE LONG-FORM CONTENT]
- Where it originally lived: [BLOG POST / NEWSLETTER / VIDEO TRANSCRIPT / PODCAST TRANSCRIPT]
- Platforms I want short versions for: [PLATFORMS, e.g. "Instagram carousel, LinkedIn post, X
  thread"]
- Number of short pieces I want: [NUMBER, OR "NO PREFERENCE, SUGGEST 3-5"]

Task:
1. Identify standalone ideas inside the long-form piece - a stat, a story, a contrarian take, a
step, a mistake - matching the number of pieces I asked for (or 3-5 if I had no preference).
2. Turn each into a short piece formatted for its target platform (a caption for Instagram, a
short post for LinkedIn, a numbered thread for X, etc.), each able to be understood without
reading the original. If I listed fewer platforms than pieces, reuse platforms as needed and
say which platform each piece is for.
3. Each short piece should have its own hook in the first line - don't reuse the same opening
   twice.
4. Suggest one visual or format idea per piece (a carousel, a single image, a quote graphic,
   plain text).

Constraints: don't just copy-paste excerpts - each piece needs its own shape and hook. If the
long-form content or platforms are missing, ask me one question, then continue. Output using the
template below.

Fill in these blanks: [PASTE LONG-FORM CONTENT], [BLOG POST / NEWSLETTER / VIDEO TRANSCRIPT / PODCAST TRANSCRIPT], [NUMBER, OR "NO PREFERENCE, SUGGEST 3-5"].

A worked example

Sam, a marketing consultant in Chicago, wrote a 1,200-word newsletter on why local businesses waste ad spend on boosted posts. The repurposer pulled one contrarian stat-free claim into a five-slide Instagram carousel, one client story (anonymized) into a LinkedIn post, and one practical checklist into an X thread - three completely different hooks from one newsletter, none of them reading like a summary of it.

Make it yours

  • Always repurpose the same day you publish the original - the ideas are freshest in your head to edit and approve quickly.
  • Ask for more pieces than you'll use, then pick the 3 with the strongest hooks rather than posting everything generated.
  • Keep a swipe file of your best-performing repurposed hooks and paste a couple in as style examples next time, so tone stays consistent.
