How to create UGC-style ads without being an influencer
Write UGC briefs, script hooks, choose faceless or AI-assisted formats, disclose them correctly, and test which variant actually works.
What you'll have at the end
A UGC-style ad brief you can hand to a creator, an AI avatar tool, or use yourself, a script built around a proper hook and structure, two or three variants ready to run as paid ads, correct disclosure wording for each platform and region you sell into, and a simple way to read the results without needing a huge budget or a data science degree.
Before you start
- One product or offer with a real price and a real checkout link, ideally something you can show or demonstrate, not an abstract service.
- A phone. That's genuinely the camera you need. A tripod or a stack of books to prop it up helps more than any lighting kit.
- A rough idea of format: on camera yourself, a hired creator, or an AI avatar or voice tool. You don't have to decide until Step 4.
- A small test budget in mind, even £5 to £15 a day for a few days is enough for an early signal, though not a statistically conclusive one.
Step 1: Understand what "UGC" means as an ad format, not as a compliment
In 2026, "UGC" in advertising almost never means literal, unpaid content a fan happened to post. It means a specific ad style: shot on a phone, first person or testimonial tone, imperfect lighting, talking straight to camera or holding the product, that a brand commissions specifically to run as a paid ad. This matters twice over. Because you're paying for it, in money, product, or your own time, it's advertising, and disclosure rules apply (Step 5) whether or not it "looks" organic. And the reason it works isn't nostalgia for real fan content, it's the format: a UGC-style opener reads as a person talking to a person, not a brand talking at a customer, which changes how quickly someone stops scrolling. You're not trying to fool anyone into thinking it's organic, you're using a proven ad format and disclosing it properly.
