Two-minute tutorial: a follow-up email after a meeting
How to turn a few scribbled notes from a call into a short, professional thank-you email
You hang up from a good call, already thinking about the next thing on your list, and the follow-up email quietly slides down the priority order. By the time you finally get to it, the details are fuzzy and the moment that made the call feel good has passed. This is the small habit that keeps a solo business feeling organised without a CRM or a system behind it — the other person remembers a clear, prompt note far longer than they remember the call itself, and a slow or missing follow-up can quietly undo the good impression the meeting left. Sending it the same day, while it still means something to both of you, is easier than it sounds once you know the shortcut.
Do this now
- Jot three or four things you remember from the call — decisions that got made, questions that came up, whatever was agreed on as the next step. A few loose fragments are enough here, you don't need anything close to a full transcript of the conversation.
- Paste those rough notes into the chat box exactly as you wrote them, in whatever order they came to mind. No need to turn them into full sentences first, or put them in any particular order — that's the next step, not this one.
- Ask for a short thank-you email that recaps what you discussed and confirms the next step clearly. This is what makes it genuinely useful rather than just polite — it gives both of you the same written record of what happens next and who owns it.
- Send it the same day, while the call is still fresh for them too. A follow-up that arrives a week later reads very differently from one that lands in their inbox that same afternoon, even if the words are nearly identical.
Try this
Turn these notes into a short thank-you email after our call: [WHAT WE DISCUSSED], [NEXT STEP].
What you'll get back
You'll get a short, warm email back — a genuine thank-you, a quick recap of what was covered on the call, and a clear statement of what happens next and who's doing it. It reads like something you sat down and thought carefully about, not something dashed off between other tasks, and it's short enough that the other person will actually read the whole thing instead of skimming the first line and moving on.
That's a professional follow-up that, in our runs, was done in a few minutes instead of drifting for days, which is exactly the gap the Follow-Up Sequences helper is built to close, with a template and a worked example so the next good call ends the way it should — properly followed up, not just quietly hung up on. Do this consistently and it stops feeling like a chore you owe people and starts feeling like part of how you naturally work — the reason people describe you as easy to deal with, without ever quite being able to say why.
